Bradford Dragon Boat Festival 2017

The Dragon Boat Festival 2017 takes place across Friday 5th – Sunday 7th May  at Roberts Park in Saltaire.
Friday 5th May will be a Youth Championships day – aimed at secondary schools and youth clubs. This will be the first of its kind in the UK and is fully supported by the British Dragonboat Association (BDA).
Saturday 6th May will remain a whole community charity day as in previous years, raising money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
Sunday 7th May is a Corporate Dragonboat Day. This targets large corporate businesses both within Bradford District but mainly from outside from all across the UK, raising money for various charities of the teams’ own choice.

There will be some 30 teams taking part in the colourful event and each will consist of up to 17 people – 16 paddlers and one drummer, who will beat the time and a dragon boat instructor who will steer.

Here are the timings for Saturday ( all approximate):
9.30am Festival officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford.
10.00am Start of the first round of races.
12.30pm Start of the second round of races.
2.22pm Start of the third round of races.
4.22pm Grand finale the three fastest teams from the earlier races going head to head to be crowned the winner.
4.32pm Awards ceremony and prizegiving.
4.45pm Racing/presentations end.
6.30pm Festival closes.

There will be entertainment, including live bands, on Saturday and Sunday.
