Emma is a Sports Development professional with 18 years’ experience shared across local government, education and facilities. She has first-hand insight of governance challenges in her role as Independent Governor at an FE College, and knows just how important school sites are as hubs in local communities through her work on the ground as a Parish Councillor.
Emma has most recently led on a national digital project for schools, ‘Use Our School’, which will support all types of schools to offer community access to their facilities.

How to maximise your facilities to increase reputation, raise achievement and generate income
- Sport England has developed a digital resource Use Our School to help schools open their sports facilities for community use and ensure they are financially self-sustaining
- 39% of all sports facilities in England are located on school sites. 62% of these are open for some form of community use
- Use Our School has tools, templates, case studies and videos that can help schools start or grow community lettings of their facilities
- ‘Use Our School’ has been developed for schools in partnership with schools and industry experts
This is a valuable resource for anyone responsible for managing community activity on secondary school sites. The workshop will also be interactive and participants are recommended to bring a tablet or iPad to the session.
Getting value for money from sports providers
Government funding for sport has been devolved to schools which has resulted in a competitive market of sports coaches and equipment and service providers going straight to schools. Do you know what the minimum standards are for sports coaches? Is one provider’s CPD better than another’s? What are the expected outcomes for the Primary PE and Sport Premium? This questions and others will be answered in an interactive workshop targeted at business managers, governors and senior leaders.
Satellite Clubs are extensions or outposts of community sports clubs which are established in a new venue, usually a secondary school or college and specifically targeted at the 14 to 25 age group. Satellite clubs are run by sports clubs who bring their expertise and enthusiasm to a place where young people already meet. Coaches and volunteers from or linked to the community hub club work in partnership with the satellite host venue to create a new satellite club.
